All our X Type cranks are fitted with a 24mm axle which works on any Hollow Tech 2 style Bottom Bracket. They come with the Bearing Pre-load Collar and the Spider/UNO Lock Ring. The colour of the cranks determines the colour of the Lock Ring but if you wish to have silver cranks and a black lock ring please leave a note on your order. Also the non-drive side bolt which is silver as standard can come as black and if required please leave a note on your order and if they are available we will fit one for you.
Middleburn cranks were first developed in 1991 and since then the cranks have undergone many refinements. This is the latest mountain bike crank which is designed to work with the external bottom brackets but also with push-fit type bottom brackets with the use of a different axle length. The design is the result of advanced 3D and stress modelling technique that ensures they are amongst the stiffest cranks on the market but also lightweight.
The cranks are hot forged from high quality 7075 T6 aluminium. They are fully CNC machined before being hand polished, anodised and then finished off by hand. All the cranks go through the same procedure so whichever crank arm you choose will be to the best quality.
RS8 cranks are designed to work with the dedicated X Type spiders and X Type UNO's to give the correct chain line. So whether you are running standard 50mm or Boost we can build your Middelburn cranks up to your exact requirements. If you purchase the cranks with a spider or direct mount UNO and wish to have it mounted on your cranks please put a note in your order to ensure that they are fitted. If you are unsure what you need please email us or call us for advice.
We are often asked what is the difference between the RS8 X Type and the RS7 X Type and the answer lies in the forging really. The RS8 have a straight blade type arm whereas the RS7 X Type have the kinked out arm which offers increased clearance on the rear chainstays and a slightly wider Q factor. The axles fitted do differ too and the RS8 X Type cranks can be fitted to bikes with different bottom bracket widths (68/73 or 83 or 100mm) whereas the RS7 X Type only work on the 68/73 bb shell currently.
Two images show some RS8 cranks fitted with the spider and the UNO. The UNO's and spiders are available in standard chain line of 50mm or Boost. Some spiders also have 54mm Rohloff and 57mm Rohloff chain line with types that accept a guard or do not take the dedicated guard. If in doubt what you need please contact us.
If you purchase a spider or UNO with your cranks and would like it mounted onto them prior to shipping, please add a note in your order and we will make sure this is completed before you receive them.
