Training Hacks for Weekend Warriors

Training Hacks for Weekend Warriors

Not everyone has time to train every day, but that doesn’t mean you can’t improve your performance on the bike. For weekend warriors balancing riding with work and other commitments, smart training is the key to making real progress. With a few focused strategies, you can maximise every ride and see noticeable gains.

1. Make Your Rides Count

When time is limited, quality matters more than quantity. Instead of just cruising, add short bursts of effort such as hill climbs or sprint intervals. Even 10–15 minutes of structured effort during a ride can improve fitness and power over time.

2. Focus on Skills as Well as Fitness

Better technique can make you faster without requiring extra fitness. Practise cornering, braking control, and line choice during your rides. Efficient riding not only improves speed but also reduces fatigue, allowing you to go further with less effort.

3. Use Midweek Micro-Sessions

If you can’t get out on the trails during the week, short sessions at home still help. Bodyweight exercises such as squats, lunges, and core work build strength that translates directly to the bike. Even 15–20 minutes a couple of times a week can make a difference.

4. Prioritise Recovery

It’s tempting to push hard every weekend, but recovery is just as important. Stretching, hydration, and proper nutrition will help your body adapt and improve. Without recovery, progress can stall and fatigue can build up quickly.

5. Keep Your Bike Dialled In

Training gains can be limited by poorly maintained equipment. Smooth-running components improve efficiency and confidence on the trail. Regularly check your drivetrain, bearings, and suspension to ensure everything is working as it should.
