Tour de France – All you Need to Know
The 2017 Tour de France has just drawn to a close and what an exciting event it was! In this blog, we’re going to talk about the winners of all the prestigious jerseys and some of the big highlights from the event!Winners!
Team Sky have dominated the tour for years winning four of the last five. This year the trend continued with Chris Froome once again claiming the illustrious yellow jersey for Team Sky! It was a hard-fought battle no doubt however, riders such as Fabio Aru and Roman Bardet gave Froome a serious run for his money which made his victory all the more exciting.
The polka dot jersey signalling the “king of the mountains was won by Warren Barguil who was a serious force to be reckoned with on what some people consider the hardest part of the Tour. The green Jersey for accumulating the most points which is often referred to as the sprint jersey fell to Michael Matthews.
Summary
Froome may have walked away victorious but nothing was ever set in stone. His rivals fought hard to try and writhe the yellow jersey from his hands but he and team sky held on despite the stiff competition.
Rob Hayles, a former British road racing champion said Froome “hasn’t won it yet” after he finished fourth in Fridays stage 19. Froome himself said that he felt Rigoberto Uran who Froome eventually finished 54 seconds ahead off was his biggest threat, highlighting just how fierce the competition was this year. Froome has also become only the seventh man in history to win the Tour without winning an actual stage, we’re unsure if that’s prestigious or not.
Next Year
Froome has said he has no intentions of retiring and plans to be in the same place this time next year which we’re extremely excited about. We’ll be more than happy to once again deliver all of your important news when the Tour rolls around next year!
A Final Word
The Tour de France is always a fantastic competition and this year was no different. The competition was enthralling from start to finish and we have thouroughly enjoyed it. Congratulations to Team Sky and of course Chris Froome!
