How To Adjust Your Front Derailleur Hanger
With the weather turning nasty, caring and maintaining your MTB parts is key to keeping wear and tear down to a minimum because of increased friction from mud and dirt. Drivetrains should also be adjusted properly to help ensure safe riding as if the chain is moving around too much the sprocket and chainring can suffer much more wear and tear. Our guide ton how to adjust you front derailleur hanger will help you set your ride up for success during the winter.
Where to Start
This guide to adjusting your derailleur hanger assumes that this MTB part is already installed and the cable is already tensioned, but to ensure that the barrel will turn, unscrew it about halfway out. By adjusting this part of the bike, you will limit how far it can move both inwards and outwards which can be done with the 2 limiter screws. The screw which effects the outer limit is known as the H-screw and the one that sets the lower limit, the L-screw.
Which Way To Move Them
There are a few things to consider when adjusting these screws ad how this will effect the derailleur hanger.
H Screw – Clockwise – this will move the front derailleur hanger towards the frame.
H Screw – Anti Clockwise – this will move the front derailleur hanger away from the frame.
L Screw – Clockwise – this will move the front derailleur hanger away from the frame.
L Screw – Anti Clockwise – this will move the front derailleur hanger towards the frame.
Adjusting
The lower limit of the derailleur hanger is set when the inner chain plate is ca. 1mm away from the chain and the outer limit is set when outer chain plate is ca. 1mm away from the chain.
